Mythocondro® claims high purity, outstanding quality profile and batch-to-batch reproducibility.

Compared to all known animal-derived CS, Mythocondro® is characterized by an extremely low content of natural contaminants, i.e. proteins, nucleic acids, other polysaccharides, largely reported to be present in extractive CS strictly due to its chemical nature and purification procedures adopted.
The homogeneous and deeply characterized structure and the unique physical-chemical properties are guaranteed by the use of the most advanced analytical techniques.

Such methods include chemical composition analysis, electrophoresis, HPSEC, immunochemical reactions, selective enzymatic digestion that further require resolution using sophisticated techniques including HPLC, polyacrylamide-gel electrophoresis (PAGE), FACE, capillary electrophoresis, mass spectroscopy, and NMR spectroscopy.

The very recent application of these specific analytical methods on commercially available supplements, such as HPLC and electrophoresis, has allowed to demonstrate the poor quality of finished products formulated with low quality animal-derived CS, with a lower concentration and/or different source of CS than specified in the label. A big problem for the global industry of supplements.

ANIMAL CHONDROITIN SULFATE: TESTING METHOD PROBLEMS

    The titration method from USP has relevant limits:
  • Can be tricket by the use of less expensive adulterants, such as the drug heparin
  • Cannot distinguish between Chondroitin Sulfate and other materials, like proteins.

CONSEQUENCES

  • Not well-identified origin
  • Variable content of immunogenic Keratan Sulfate (KS)
  • Animal origin detected only by rather expensive and detailed chemical analyses
  • Poor batch-to-batch reproducibility
